We feel very honoured and privileged to share our story with audiences from communities across Canada. From meeting an initial need to providing neighbourhoods with programs and resources; we thank you for showing interest in what we do and for your support.

Mornelle Court residents took "our community back" from gun violence.

“Since 2008 there has not been a shooting in Mornelle Court, and I believe it’s because we stood up for our community,” Brackett said.

At the time, student attendance had plummeted following two shootings within days of each other in the summer of 2008, she said. The route to the school went right past the scene of one of the homicides.

“People were afraid to walk in the community and our kids weren’t going to school,” she said.

"Parents weren't taking their kids to school anymore," said Angela Bracket, who lives in the area.

"They were afraid to walk because we had a couple of shootings ... so it really affected the community."

The final straw was the murder of 17-year-old Shazad Khawaja in July 2008. He was gunned down during a trip to the store to buy milk for his mother.

That's when Brackett decided to do something to make the neighbourhood safe for their families. She started the Safe Walk program.
